Ingredients
- 2 lbs Yukon gold or russet potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for greasing)
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Optional: fresh thyme leaves and parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
- In a saucepan, warm heavy cream, whole milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg over low heat.
- Layer half of the potato slices in the baking dish; pour half of the cream mixture over them and sprinkle with half of both cheeses.
- Repeat layering with remaining potatoes, cream mixture, cheeses, and thyme if using.
- Cover with foil and bake for 35–40 minutes; then uncover and bake for another 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool for 10–15 minutes before serving.
