Ingredients
- 500 g All-Purpose Flour (or gluten-free flour)
- 50 g Sugar (or coconut sugar)
- 10 g Salt
- 25 g Fresh Yeast (or 3g active dry yeast)
- 3 medium Eggs (flax eggs for vegan)
- 100 g Unsalted Butter (or vegan butter)
- 500 ml Whole Milk (or almond/soy milk)
- 1 whole Vanilla Pod (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)
- 4 large Egg Yolks (or cornstarch as thickener)
- 30 g Cornstarch
- 100 g Mini Chocolate Chips
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Mix in fresh yeast.
- Whisk together eggs and melted butter; gradually add milk. Combine wet and dry ingredients, kneading until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm area for about 2 hours or until doubled.
- For the custard filling, heat milk with vanilla seeds; whisk egg yolks with sugar and cornstarch. Combine hot milk into yolk mixture, then return to saucepan and cook until thickened.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Roll out dough into rectangles, scoop custard on one half, sprinkle chocolate chips on top, fold over and seal edges.
