Ingredients
- 4 medium yellow onions
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ pound ground beef
- 1 ½ teaspoons chicken hamburger seasoning
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup (56.5 g) Gruyere cheese (shredded, divided)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice off the tops of the onions and hollow them out, leaving about 1/2 inch around the sides.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add onion tops and cook until golden brown (about 10 minutes).
- In a bowl, combine ground beef with chicken seasoning, garlic powder, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and half of the Gruyere cheese. Mix well.
- Place hollowed onions in a baking dish; fill with beef mixture and top with caramelized onion tops and remaining cheese.
- Drizzle with remaining olive oil, cover with foil and bake for about 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 20 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
