Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium yellow onions
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 ½ teaspoons chicken hamburger seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup (56.5 g) Gruyere cheese (shredded, divided)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice off the tops of the onions and hollow them out, leaving about 1/2 inch around the sides.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add onion tops and cook until golden brown (about 10 minutes).
  3. In a bowl, combine ground beef with chicken seasoning, garlic powder, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and half of the Gruyere cheese. Mix well.
  4. Place hollowed onions in a baking dish; fill with beef mixture and top with caramelized onion tops and remaining cheese.
  5. Drizzle with remaining olive oil, cover with foil and bake for about 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 20 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
