  • 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 yellow onion (medium diced)
  • 1 crusty white roll
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika powder (can use mild or spicy)
  • 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 500 milliliters beef broth
  • 200 milliliters heavy cream
  • Cornstarch (to thicken the sauce)

Instructions

  1. Soak the crusty roll in water and set aside.
  2. Boil a large pot of water and add cabbage leaves; simmer for 2 minutes until softened.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, diced onion, soaked roll (squeezed dry), egg, salt, pepper, paprika, and marjoram.
  4. Divide the filling among cabbage leaves and roll tightly; secure with twine or chives.
  5. Heat olive oil in a deep pan, brown the rolls on all sides.
  6. Pour in the beef broth, cover, and simmer on low heat for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove rolls; thicken the remaining broth with heavy cream and cornstarch; season to taste.
