  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 33.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour for glaze
  • 34 tablespoons water for glaze
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar for glaze
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup for glaze
  • 23 teaspoons milk for glaze

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar; let sit until frothy (5–10 minutes).
  2. In another bowl, whisk together warm milk, melted butter, granulated sugar, spices, salt, and vanilla.
  3. Add frothy yeast mixture to the wet ingredients; gradually stir in flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl; cover and let rise in a warm area until doubled (about 1 hour).
  6. Punch down dough; fold in raisins and divide into 12 pieces. Shape into buns and place on a lined baking sheet.
  7. Cover buns again to rise until doubled (about 30 minutes). Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Prepare glaze by mixing flour with water; pipe crosses on buns before baking for about 22 minutes until golden brown.
