Description

Polish stuffed cabbage rolls, or Gołąbki, are a delightful comfort food that brings warmth and heartiness to any meal. This recipe features tender cabbage leaves enveloping a savory mixture of seasoned ground beef and rice, all simmered in a rich tomato sauce that enhances the flavors beautifully.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head of green cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice, cooked
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram

Instructions

  1. Core the cabbage and carefully remove the leaves. Blanch in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until pliable; trim thick cores.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, and pepper.
  3. Place filling on each cabbage leaf, fold in sides, and roll tightly.
  4. Arrange rolls seam-side down in a pot or Dutch oven.
  5. Mix crushed tomatoes, beef broth, paprika, and marjoram; pour over cabbage rolls.
  6. Cover and simmer on low heat for 1.5 to 2 hours until tender.
