Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp fresh herbs (thyme, parsley, or rosemary)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the yeast mixture by combining warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
- In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, softened butter, flour, and salt. Knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
- For the filling, melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for about 2 minutes until fragrant. Stir in chopped herbs and set aside.
- Roll out the risen dough into a large rectangle on a floured surface. Brush with garlic herb butter and sprinkle mozzarella evenly over the surface.
- Roll the dough into a log shape. Slice it lengthwise down the middle and twist the halves together with cut sides facing up.
- Place the twisted dough in a greased baking pan and let rise for another 30–40 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush with egg wash before baking.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool for 15 minutes before slicing.
