  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • one 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • one 12-ounce can evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream (for soaking)
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream (for topping)
  • 3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, beat egg yolks with half of the sugar until creamy; add whole milk and vanilla.
  3. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl; mix into wet ingredients.
  4. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form; gradually add remaining sugar until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold egg whites into batter gently; pour into greased baking dish.
  6. Bake for about 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean; cool completely.
  7. Mix sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and heavy cream in a bowl.
  8. Poke holes in the cooled cake and pour milk mixture over it.
  9. Whip heavy cream with confectioners’ sugar until stiff peaks form; spread over cake.
